Charles Spurgeon

I can't that no one mentioned him.
Then it would be:
John Calvin
John Wesley
Johnathan Edwards
Wayne Grudem

C.S. Lewis and Charles Ryrie. As a former student of Moody Bible Inst. as well as Word of Life we read a lot from Charles Ryrie.

Depending on topic I love to wrestle in thought with Lewis and Luther. They are both "Great"

Recently I've read some Augustine, and I have felt blessed by the challenge of reading it. I have been awestruck by how his writing resonates in my soul. I feel that I know him, and that allows me to be more intimate with his thoughts and experiences.

Once, I was told not to be afraid to "over-read" those authors you could connect with. I read Luther and Lewis as teachers, but Augustine as a brother or a friend.

I encourage you to find theologians with whom you have that kind of personal connection.

I would have to through my hat in for Bonhoeffer, George MacDonald, CS Lewis, and JESUS!

I think they covered a lot of ground.

John Wesley, followed by Randy Maddox who has the uncanny ability to make John Wesley understandable.

Honorable Mentions: Wolfhart Pannenberg, Jurgen Moltmann, Craig Keen, Mildred Bangs Wynkoop

However, more and more, I'm beginning to get more interested in the "everyday theologians."

Sure, it's great to be guided by the "greats" - but we are ALL theologians. Everyone is a theologian.

I'm pretty partial to Moltmann...some really good stuff there! As well as with the Liberation Theologians....(Gutierrez, Cone, etc.)
