What does your plan to follow up with students after summer camp, missions trip, or a weekend retreat look like?
When you take kids to camp or return home from a missions trip experience, there is usually a high because the shared experience is so fresh. What do you do to follow up with kids who made decisions for Christ? How do you plan that in your ministry calendar? What are some of the main principles you think are the most important to be successful at helping students make the next steps in their journey's whether or not they accepted Christ at camp or that retreat? Thanks for any insgiht you could provide.

I think it's key to involve others in the follow up process. Let your small group leaders/sunday school teachers know about any decisions. That will relieve you of some of the responsibility. I would have some "next step" things in place before the trip/camp. That way, after a student makes a decision, it's easier to follow up and to know how to follow up with them. If you have a student who becomes a believer, than you have a new believers group/class (we do it as a mentoring relationship here) ready to go. If they recommit or want to go deeper, you are able to equip them with necessary resources. If some are called into full time vocational ministry, you have something for them as well. It's all about having it and planning before hand! |
