The stats on effectiveness of purity pledges depends on where you get your info. Most of the stuff I've seen says that while many students do not remain completely abstinent after a pledge, they at least tend to be older when they do engage in intercoarse, which is better than nothing. We did a longer study called Naked Truth that was put out by interlinc. It's sort of an all-star study based on the best lessons from doug fields, josh mcdowell, dare2share, and others. Each week was different and it's super easy to prepare and lead.

I have used true love waits and good stuff, last year used the purity code by Jim Burns. AWESOME resource.

We've already started. First 2 weeks is on Purity. Next 3 weeks is Dating and Marriage. Sixth week we put it all together "Purity Dating and Marriage". The last class is on Godly Parents (Deut. 6:4-9). I used to separate guys and girls but this year we've kept em together and it's working very well.

I have a lot of thoughts on this subject but I will try and stay on target.

First we do a purity study to corresponds to prom rather than V-day. I think students plan in advance to have sex that night and so we start at least 4-6 weeks before to hit it in time.

Then we don't just talk about not having sex. We talk about purity in live and that part of that is not having sex till marriage. You have to give them the whys as well.

We talk about porn with the guys during this time as well. And we will probably do a porn section with the girls this years as the stats say more and more are addicted to it.

I would check out XXXChurch.com for stats and resources.

For a startling look at STD's check out PamStenzel.com

I also think your on the right track with giving them more than just don't do it. A few years ago when we tackled this we tried to focus on why to say no. That why I think can become a more concrete thought to wrap their mind around.
