I feel called to ministry, but I'm not sure what I want to do within the church.
I was involved in a Master's Commission program for two years, so I've gotten my feet wet being involved in just about everything, including nation wide outreach, rebuilding hurricane damaged homes, church services, drama, and youth discipleship. My spiritual gifts and talents are all over the place (Music, writing, mercy, teaching, sheparding...) I've talked to people I trust and they have given me several answers. Not really sure what to pursue here. I am about half done with an online Religion degree and need to make a decision soon about finishing it or another degree. Any advice on how to make this an easier choice?

PRAY...alot. You said you have talked to people you trust and they give you different answers, who are the closest to you? What do they say? What things in your list of talents are the most rewarding for you personally? What are things you have tried that seem to flow easliy from you when others find it a struggle? I would also suggest speaking with the Senior Pastor of your home church and ask for their prayers/advice. The assessments are a helpful tool also. Deciding what you DO NOT want is a good place to start narrowing it down too. |

Have you taken an actual spiritual gift assessment? While I wouldn't bank everything on it, the assessment may help you discern your gifts in a new light. Also, you just gotta jump sometimes. When I interviewed for our student ministry position I told the sr pastor that I wasn't called to students specifically... But I know I'm called to build the church. I relate well to all ages and groups of people... Does this fit your personality? Or do you gravitate towards on people group? Explore with an open mind and listen to the whisper when you are doing something that completes you. |

Spends some time praying about it. What have others affirmed in you? I'd finish the degree you are working on (half baked things make me cringe when looking at resumes). Spend some more time in a couple top areas. Sometimes smorgasbord ministry opps don't give you enough to get tired of any one ministry (or on fire for one either). Find some internships to try out. (Saddleback has one). Keep trying, sometimes trial and error is how some find their calls. |

I believe there are both internal & external elements to being called, meaning you'll feel God calling you and the church will also affirm it. So it might help to approach this in two ways: 1) which of these areas do you feel most strongly that God is pulling you in? Is God tugging at your heart one way more than another? Has he given you a passion for one area? And then 2) what are others within the church saying? Do other people point out certain gifts, talents or skills? Ask mature Christians that you know well and trust what area of ministry they see you in. Finally, look at what doors God is opening and which ones He's closing. If you're pursuing Him He'll ultimately steer you in the right direction. |

Define what you mean by "Ministry" and "Church" such a loaded question. You might have to define what type of minsitry and what church or church ministry seeking etc. |
