How do I get the leaders of the Youth Ministry interested in volunteering at a homeless shelter or a nursing home during the summer?
This past Wednesday night we sat down to plan out our summer curriculum and I had suggested that we take a Wednesday night to go and volunteer at a homeless shelter or at a nursing home, nothing extravagent. I was met with groans and "uggghhhh" from the leaders. I am very confused with their responses because I thought we are to be of service to these people like Christ was. Am I not seeing a bigger picture?

*The one or two leaders who showed interest. Even let the others go because you never know how the Holy Spirit will move in their lives through serving. |

You grab the one or two leaders and go anyway. Be passionate about it and cast the vision to the students as their attitude will reflect YOUR leadership. Don't let the apathy of your leaders hinder you from doing something God lays on your heart. Be consistent. Nothing transforms students more into the likeness of Christ than mission work like that. NOW...the talk you need to have with your leaders...that's another question :). |
