Advice and prayers for couseling parents of troubled student?
I have a student, adopted by an older couple from birth; birth mom adicted to drugs - he is 14 now. His behaivior is as such, knives, bullets, inappropriate clothing meaning rebal flag bandannas (in the south with black kids there)injuring others outside before meetings, even hit one of my female leaders hitting her in the face with a football.. I meet with the parents and student and expelled him for lack of better words. I told them that he would not be allowed to re-enter the fellowship without some counseling involving the parents as well as I believe after my meeting their are significant issues on both sides. Prayers and advise as I prepare for many sessions to help draw out the anger and resentment on both sides and help them heal.

I think Josh is right on. It sounds like this family needs professional help in learning how to better deal with feelings all around and healthy relating. Just by offering your support and help in whatever way you can will be a great start to this family being able to come to terms with the issues involved. I will definitely be keeping you all in prayer as you walk along side them for this journey. |

I'm with Josh on this one. If you don't have the professional counseling background... Refer them to someone who does. There's something deeper going on here as well as parent-child relationship hel needed. |

It sounds like the family would also benefit from a professional counselor. I encourage you to do what you can, but it is also likely that there are deeper issues that may require a more extensive counseling program for the family. Anytime there is an association with violence, there must be some serious attention paid to the situation using all avenues of aid. |
